"Being able to choose the right school for a child is a very important and impactful choice in a person's life. I am beyond grateful that my parents chose to send me here for the last 9 years" - Kaitlyn M -

A Note from our Executive Director

Dear AGBMS-AEHI FAMILIES,

As the new Executive Director, I am thrilled to welcome all the new and returning families to our one-of-a-kind Montessori and Cued Speech program. Moreover, I would like to thank Ms. Debra Trude-Suter for her leadership throughout her 12 years of employment at AGBMS-AEHI. We sincerely wish Ms. Debra much success in her future endeavors.

We are very proud to serve our community as one of the few accredited Montessori schools in Illinois. The school’s mission and vision remain strong. Teachers and staff have been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming 2023-24 school year. Our goal is to make each classroom a prepared, safe, child-centered, and nurturing environment for all students.

We have made some changes that will enhance your child’s learning experience and we will be offering additional extracurricular classes for our Elementary and Middle school programs including Spanish, art, and gym.
Ms. Jackie will be teaching grades 7-9 and is a licensed teacher by ISBE in special education. Ms. Heidi will continue her work as a Teacher of the Deaf along with Ms. Elaine as our speech pathologist. Ms. Sandra will be teaching grades 4-6, she recently graduated from National Louis University. Ms. Lisa will continue to provide Montessori education for children who are in grades 1-3.

Ms. Maria will continue to provide Montessori education in Children House (ages 3-6) along with Ms. Amanda and Ms. Isabel. Extracurricular activities such as Spanish, art and yoga will be offered in Children House.

Ms. Galitzia, Ms. Elizabeth, Ms. Angie, Ms. Donna and Ms. Melissa will continue their work with infants and toddlers and will provide a loving, peaceful, and safe environment for our youngest children.

We have some exciting news to share with all of you! American Montessori Society (AMS) has approved our self-study for re-accreditation. As you may be aware, AMS accreditation is the highest recognition that a Montessori school can obtain. In the following months, the AMS re-accreditation team will visit AGBMS to evaluate and certify that our school is compliant with all required standards. Moreover, AMS has published an article about the school on the Montessori Life blog.

The school’s calendar for 2023-2024 includes ample opportunities for parent engagement and classroom observation. These include but are not limited to Montessori mornings, open houses, Peace Day, Grandparents’ Day, winter sing-along, multicultural fair, Spring Festival fundraising and more. If you would like to follow life at AGBMS more closely, please check our website, and Instagram posts. You are also welcome to join our Transparent Classroom platform to monitor your child’s progress.

A few important reminders:

• Parents will continue to be required to check in online via Transparent Classroom, please assess your child’s health before arriving at the school.
• Drop off is available from 8:00 am to 8:30 am. Pick up is available from 3:15 pm to 3:30 pm. Please be punctual as this teaches the children the importance of punctuality and the respect it shows to our staff and other students. Half-day children will be picked up promptly from 12:00 pm to 12:15 pm.
• We will once again be offering an AM/PM Care program. Please let us know if you are interested in adding this to your tuition. AM/PM Care prices vary with grade level. AM Care drop-off would be at 7:30 am and PM Care will be provided up to 5:00 pm.

I firmly believe that this will be an amazing school year filled with learning and socialization opportunities for our students and families. I would like to thank you for entrusting us with your children every day, as we educate them for life. We look forward to working with your family at AGBMS-AEHI!

All the best,

Julissa Zenteno, Executive Director

One of our older Students William made a special presentation to our pre-k students - a wonderful example of younger children learning from older children in a Montessori program.

The metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly is miraculous, but how does the process actually work, and what happens inside that pupa? His description of the process was articulate, enthusiastic, and he was able to maintain their interest throughout the session. Brilliant!

The spindle box develops early counting skills and develops the association between quantity and the number symbols 0-9. Importantly, it teaches the concept of zero. The wooden box has ten numbered compartments into which the child counts the corresponding number of tactile wooden spindles.

Montessori Ten Board with Beads teaches a child to associate the quantities and symbols.

The Pink Tower helps a child build a concept of size in three dimensions. This includes working on visual perception, and awareness of dimension, both leading to an understanding of size in the environment. The Pink Tower also helps develop a child's fine muscular coordination.

Montessori birthday celebration. In the Montessori birthday walk the child walks around the sun the number of times as they are years old while holding a globe. Everyone sings a song while they walk and stories of their year are told between laps.

Sandpaper Numerals are used to give children a tactile feeling of the written representation of quantities as they trace the numbers with their fingers. It also helps develop muscular memory in preparation for future writing.

The Moveable Alphabet is part of the Preschool Language Curriculum, and one of the purposes is to prepare children for writing, reading, and spelling. The child's use of the material progresses from single words, to phrases, and eventually to stories helping them to symbolize their own thoughts, and begin to write creatively.
