SUMMER PROGRAM 2006

(FOR 3 to 12 YEAR OLDS)

Come join us for a fun-filled summer program.  This year we are excited about the 4 themes we will focus on this summer.  Register for any combination of sessions (including all 4!) that fits your family’s busy summer schedule.  Here are the dates and topics for each two-week session:

Full Day 9:00 a.m./3:00 p.m.

Half Day 9:00 a.m./Noon OR Noon/3:00 p.m. Available

(Before and After Care also available)

Session One:  Our Community – June 12th to June 23rd

During this session, the children will be exploring Mount Prospect and people who work in and around our suburb.  There will be visits from community workers, as well as a field trip to downtown Mount Prospect to visit the Police & Fire Department.  Children will also have their own Block Party and Carnival.

Session Two:  Mysteries  – June 26th to July 7th (NO Camp Monday, July 3rd and Tuesday, July 4th )

If your child is interested in solving puzzles, deciphering our clues, or going on scavenger hunts, then this session is for them!  We will learn about famous detectives, host our own Disappearance Mystery, serve up a “Mystery” lunch, and write our own mystery.  There will be daily puzzles to solve and clues to find – “Where in the World is Maria Montessori?”

Session Three:  “Mad Scientists” – July 10th to July 21st

These two weeks will zero in on chemical reactions using a variety of techniques.  We’ll do daily experiments – by creating our own hypotheses and answering our own questions.  We’ll discuss how one substance can change into another.  One day we’ll lunch on items where everything went through a chemical reaction.  A field trip to one of the science museums is being planned.

Session Four:  African Safari – July 24th to August 4th

The first week of this session will be spent in Egypt studying mummies, pyramids, and King Tut.  We will make our own Pyramid of Gaza and Sphinx, complete with hieroglyphics and sarcophagi.

The second week we will head out to the bush country of Africa, studying the large animals of the continent as well as African tribes and their crafts.  A Safari to Lincoln Park Zoo will take place the last week of camp.  One day of camp we’ll also prepare our own African Feast.
