Alexander Graham Bell Montessori School & AEHI

Mary Ann Lachman, an angel whose passion and vision led to the founding of AEHI and AGBMS 25 years ago, passed away on January 11, 2012, after a 9-year valiant battle against cancer. Her family requests that donations in her memory be made to AEHI to support the Cued Speech programs that miraculously changed the life of Mary Ann’s and Ron’s son, Ben, and continue to change the lives of an exponentially growing number of deaf children and their families throughout Illinois and beyond.

Mary Ann, in one of her last formal acts in support of her life’s work on behalf of deaf children, penned a matching grant proposal to fund a new position of “Director of Deaf Services” at AEHI. This new Director will literally carry on Mary Ann’s work, championing AEHI’s and Mary Ann’s mission to enable deaf children to achieve age-appropriate language and literacy skills and to be fully and happily integrated into the mainstream of life.

Due to recent growth in the number of young deaf children entering the AGBMS model Cued Speech Montessori program, and due to an increasing demand and need for Cued Speech education and services throughout the state of Illinois and beyond, the need for a Deaf Services Director who can grow and expand AEHI’s programs has become critical. Please help by donating to match the grant from the Ronald and Mary Ann Lachman Family Foundation.
